He delivered us from the power of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,
in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

— The Bible, Colossians 1:13-14

To laugh often and love much;
to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children;
to earn the approbation of honest citizens and endure the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty;
to find the best in others;
to give of one’s self;
to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation;
to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived —
this is to have succeeded.

— Ralph Waldo Emerson

People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway. If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway. Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway. For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It never was between you and them anyway.

— Mother Theresa of Calcutta

During the Nazi regime, so comparable to the communist regime, the King of Denmark was told directly by Hitler that beginning immediately all Jews would have to wear a yellow arm band indicating that they were Jews. The King of Denmark knew that this meant death for the Jews as soon as they would be identified. He also knew that there could be great devastation if he did not comply with Hitler’s order, so he issued the edict, but then he himself put on a yellow arm band and the whole country immediately followed suit so that it now was impossible to distinguish between Christian and Jew. This is a very important insight into the meaning of solidarity and its potential.

— John Cardinal O’Connor

If you don’t live as you believe, soon you will start to believe as you live.

— Archbishop Fulton Sheen

Merciful Father, in the name of our lovable Jesus, of the Virgin Mary and of the Saints, I ask You to set my sister on fire with Your Spirit of Love, and to grant her the grace of making you deeply Loved.

— St. Thérèse of Lisieux

If we really know it’s true that Jesus is THERE in the Eucharist, we HAVE to LIVE like that. Otherwise, it’s just a game. No more excuses. Scary.

— Me, inspired by Danielle Rose

Get out of the way, and let me love you!

— God

Many kinds of almsgiving win pardon for our sins, but none more than truly forgiving someone who has sinned against us.

— St. Augustine

When we say “yes” to God in the little things he asks of us each day, it prepares and practices us for the big things when He asks them.

— Archbishop Alfred Hughes

Forget not, never forget that you have promised me to use this silver to become an honest man…. Jean Valjean, my brother: you belong no longer to evil, but to good. It is your soul that I am buying for you. I withdraw it from dark thoughts and from the spirit of perdition, and I give it to God!

— Victor Hugo as Bishop Myriel, Les Misérables

Pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though everything depended on you.

— St. Augustine

The sin that is the cross was redeemed by the cross.

— Anonymous

Prayer has much more to do with communion than communication.

— Archbishop Alfred Hughes

Souls go to hell for 1 reason…they refuse to love. Love pardons everything except 1 thing – refusal to love.

— Archbishop Fulton Sheen

Our happiest times are those in which we forget ourselves usually in being kind to someone else.

— Archbishop Fulton Sheen

I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.

— See Philippians 4:13, The Bible

Father break my heart for what breaks Yours.

— Matthew West, My Own Little World

How can we worship a homeless man on Sunday, then ignore one on Monday?

God determines who walks into your life. Its up to you who you let walk out, who you let stay, and who you refuse to let go.

You weren’t an accident. You weren’t mass produced. You aren’t an assembly-line product. You were deliberately planned, specifically gifted, and lovingly positioned on the earth by the Master Craftsman.

— Max Lucado

Forgive and give as if it were your last opportunity. Love like there’s no tomorrow, and if tomorrow comes, love again.

— Max Lucado

Do not waste time bothering whether you “love” your neighbour; act as if you did. As soon as we do this we find one of the great secrets. When you are behaving as if you loved someone, you will presently come to love him.

— C.S. Lewis

The only really effective apologia for Christianity comes down to two arguments, namely, the saints the Church has produced and the art which has grown in her womb. Better witness is borne to the Lord by the splendor of holiness and art which have arisen in the community of believers than by the clever excuses which apologetics has come up with to justify the dark episodes which, sadly, are so frequent in the Church’s human history. If the Church is to continue to transform and humanize the world, how can she dispense with beauty in her liturgies, that beauty which is so closely linked with love and with the radiance of the Resurrection?

— Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI), The Ratzinger Report, translated by Salvator Attanasio and Graham Harrison (San Francisco: Ignatius Press, 1985)
